F.A.Q.

Is it necessary to make a reservation to go on a whale watching tour?

No, you don’t have to make a reservation. We have several scheduled daily tours. During the whale watching season (June to December) there are whale watching tours daily beginning at 9:30am. Each tour lasts approximately 1h 15minutes. Whale watching tours will only be cancelled if the weather conditions are too stormy. There are no age restrictions for making a whale watching tour.

How can I get to Punta Ballenas?

Our headquarters are located in Puerto Pirámides, in Peninsula Valdes, 97 km. from Puerto Madryn (See map). If you drive along the National Route 3, turn into Provincial Route 2 and drive o for 97 km as far as the Puerto Piramides, an eco-tourist village. Once you reach this place, continue driving as far as the second pier. You'll find us easily, just overlooking the beach. Means of transport from Puerto Madryn: Daily bus services (only in summer), hired cars, “remises” (a kind of taxis), and the different vehicles that travel agencies have. You could opt to fly here and arrive at Tehuelche airport near Puerto Madryn, or at Almirante Zar airport near Trelew (ie. 145km from Piramides Port) from where you can take a transfer service, bus or taxi to Piramides Port.

What time are these trips scheduled?

During the whale watching season (June to December) there are whale watching tours daily beginning at 9:30am. Each tour lasts approximately 1h 15minutes. Whale watching tours will only be cancelled if the weather conditions are too stormy. There are no age restrictions for making a whale watching tour.

Can I swim with the whales?

No, and even though this is a topic of constant debate, the laws that govern and protect this natural resource strictly and specifically prohibit this activity. Severe penalties and/or fines will be applied to anyone who does not respect these regulations.
